NEWSLETTER #10: What Your Cell Phone Pics Say About Your VALUES—and Your Brand

“Show me your cell phone pictures, and I’ll show you what you value.”

A photographer friend once said this to me and, from what I’ve been able to gather, it rings true. These pics often capture what matters most to us—the people, places, moments, memories…

So if you’re on a quest to build a fulfilling business (and life) I suggest identifying what you really VALUE first. Then, build your world on that.

Consider what your life would look like if everything you did was deliberate and with intention.

For me, it would be a multi-faceted expression that includes meaningful relationships, continual growth, contributing to others’ success, and engaging in activities that bring me joy.

Every year, I take extra time in December to unwind and focus on my personal life. It’s my time to step back, reflect, and recalibrate. So as January crept up, I found myself recalling exactly how I spent my time the last month of 2024. Where did I place VALUE?

I opened my cell phone and scrolled through the pictures and videos I captured during the final month of 2024. They made me smile.

As a result, I crafted this little video and narrated some thoughts to share with you.

One of the conclusions I came to is that I ONLY want to work with people who are just like me.

People who are driven by a desire to make a real impact and leave the world a better place than they found it.

People who are not just chasing success but are committed to making a real impact by building businesses and living lives that matter.

As a Brand Strategist for Emerging Entrepreneurs, I am deeply committed to helping individuals craft meaningful, distinctive business foundations that reflect their unique vision, values, and a holistic approach to growth.

Branding, at its core, is first about ALIGNMENT (values), then about creating a BRIDGE (connection).

It’s about connecting who you are—your values, mission, and vision—with the people you’re meant to serve.

This bridge is built intentionally, brick by brick, through every touchpoint of your business. Your messaging, visuals, client experience, and even the way you engage on social media all serve as planks in this bridge.

It’s not just about standing out in a crowded market—it’s about creating a connection so strong that people feel compelled to walk across the bridge you’ve built to join your world.

TRY THIS EXERCISE:

After each of the following questions, pause and consider each answer. Don’t just read it, really reflect on it. Allow yourself the space to go beyond surface-level responses.

  1. What’s the ultimate goal behind all your hard work, and does it truly align with the life you want to create?
  2. Who are the people that energize and inspire you—those who lift your spirit and make you feel unstoppable? Are you spending enough time with them?
  3. What activities bring you genuine joy and fulfillment, and how can you intentionally create more space for them in your life?
  4. Does your work reflect your sense of purpose, or is it time to realign with the calling that truly drives you?
  5. What would you regret leaving undone, and what small steps can you take now to make sure you don’t miss those opportunities?

These questions are more than moments of reflection—they serve as a compass, pointing you toward the life and business you’re meant to create.

A fulfilling life and a thriving business share the same foundation: authenticity, intentionality, and a deep connection to what truly matters.

Go ahead—step into the new year with courage, purpose, and a commitment to build something extraordinary.

I want to tell you that it’s never too late to start a new journey or dream a big dream.

NEWSLETTER #9: Are You Making an Impact or Just Being Seen?

“Who are you in secret?” That was the powerful question my pastor posed this last Sunday. He followed it with an additional thought-provoking challenge that caused me to pause and think: “Do you have light but no heat?” Take a moment; ponder that. It’s a question that pushes us to examine the authenticity of our lives and, in turn, the effect we’re having on the world around us. This is something worth reflecting on – not just in our personal lives, but in…

NEWSLETTER #8: Make It Personal

I love to see small businesses that fully reflect their owners’ personal brands. Take a closer look into a successful small business and you’ll be certain to find an entrepreneur that is confident (and savvy) enough to be deliberate about allowing their personal brand to blossom and impact their organization’s brand. Some small business owners shy away from allowing “too much” of themselves into the identity of their business. I’ve heard things like: “I don’t feel comfortable putting myself out there.” “It’s not…
